Our school is a Title I , high-poverty school of 425 students. These students are passionate about their learning and work very hard to do well. In our Title program we work with students who are below grade level in reading and writing. The students we serve come to us everyday with a smile and great attitude!
Our third and fourth grade students struggle with decoding unknown words and comprehending what they read.
They started the year at least one grade level behind their peers. They have made progress and are working hard to exceed the quarterly benchmarks
My Project
Having high interest non-fiction texts is something that we do not currently have in our book room. Our readers love to read nonfiction and learn all about the world around them!
Reading about current events is essential to understanding about the world and its people.
We are in a low-income Title 1 school and many of our students lack experiences outside of their school and neighborhood. Giving them a chance to travel to other parts of the world through Scholastic Magazines and Time for Kids would be awesome! They will be introduced to new vocabulary, language structures and be able to work on comprehension skills!
