High Interest Non-Fiction For Our Classroom
My students need high interest non fiction reading materials to inspire them to enjoy reading!
Reading counts! My students are level 1 ESL students, they speak and write in English on a very basic level. We have the goal of reading and analyzing 50 non-fiction articles for the school year! Please help these students learn English and content, science and history!
My students come from all over the world!
English is their 2nd language and they are all newcomers to our country, entering our public school in 8th grade. For many, this is their 1st experience in formal schooling. Our days are busy as we work together towards learning a common language, English.
I am requesting monthly magazines, that are non fiction, high interest, in both Spanish and English so that we can work on their literacy skills in both languages. By giving them the gift of a subscription to a monthly magazine we are creating anticipation that spurs even more engagement in the content areas.
What is more important to achieving success in our society than learning to be literate in English?
In the twenty plus years I have taught, I have watched more students leave high school to pursue their dreams of college and beyond. It is the best job in the world!
