Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
"I already read that book Ms. Delatorre, we don't have any books at my level." This is a sad line I hear often in my class. Many of my struggling readers are unable to stay engaged in their reading because our classroom library lacks the books need to support them.
My students are hardworking 5th graders from East Oakland.
Our school has limited book resources for students, especially those reading below grade level. They are struggling readers trying to reach our class goal of 1.5 years reading growth with limited home support and book resources.
My Project
We are requesting books in the reading levels between 2.8 - 3.0 in order to help our struggling readers have access to books at their level in class. These books will allow students to read in class and at home. Too many students struggle to find books at their level in our library. This causes frustration towards reading. These books will allow my students to be life long readers by helping them increase their reading comprehension.
Having access to these books in class will allow my students to increase their reading level and be ready for middle school, high school and ultimately college.
My students are in 5th grade this is their last opportunity to really be able to increase their reading level before they are required to read to learn at grade level.
