Celebrate Black Teachers and Students

This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.

My Students

My day is always exciting. Working with K through 6th graders in a small group setting is fun and challenging. Every group is so different, and it is so much fun getting to know them all!

During small group time, we are process driven, motivated, and encouraging with ourselves and each other.

I lead the intervention team at my school and work with five other hardworking and enthusiastic interventionists!

We work with kids who struggle, developing learners, and students who are ready for a challenge in small groups. These students have so much potential. They excel in a small group environment. Small group is perfect for these students because they get the individual attention they need, and that does not always occur in a class of 30 students. They have come so far. We work on specific standards and foundational skills that they might have missed to fill in the gaps and push students further!

My Project

When students read books they're interested in, their motivation and interest grows! Students often don't have access to the books they like to read at home or at school so I always try to keep my library stocked full of books they love to read. New graphic novels, new releases, and high interest books grow readers and result in higher achievement.

When students read books they're interested in, their motivation and interest grows!

Students love to checkout books from my library, but often times the books don't return. Often that means that students loved the books so much, they kept them. I always need to restock my library throughout the year and these books will really help students grow!
