My Students

I remember one of my previous students being so excited because he had found the shortest book in the library. However, by the end of the school year, he was reading chapter books. He developed a love for reading that year.

My students want to be great readers, but they are not there YET!!

Students in my class are struggling readers who are reading on kindergarten and first grade levels. Many of my students do not have access to books at home and rely on our school library and my classroom library to check out books that they are able to read independently.

My Project

All of my students have difficulty reading, and it is often difficult for them to find interesting books that they can and want to read. They want to be great readers, and I have promised them that I will do everything in my power to help them achieve that goal.

My students need high interest/low readability chapter books in order to improve their reading skills while developing a love for reading.

They will use these books as a supplement to their systematic explicit small group phonics instruction that they receive everyday in class. These books are designed for beginning, at-risk, or struggling readers.

My students need these sixteen decodable chapter books that sound interesting: The Gold of Black Rock Hill, Spelling Pen In Elf Land, Fox Hunt, Six Days at Camp. My students will love checking these books out from our classroom library to take home to read.
