My students need high interest books to read! I've included popular authors like Rick Riordan and Sarah J. Maas, as well as less familiar ones, like Maria V. Snyder, to introduce them to new authors!

My Students
I teach at a small high school full of wonderful students, but we're a school without a lot of money. As a result, there's not much money to put toward having a classroom library. In my previous 8 years of teaching, the years where I felt my students performed the best were the years that I had a full classroom library of current books at the appropriate reading and interest levels that we could read and share with one another.
It is my intention to provide ready access to high interest, age appropriate texts in my classroom to share with and recommend to my students to increase both their love of reading and reading ability.
Access to text is one of the most important factors in building a reader. Coming from a small school in a low income area, many of my students haven't grown up in homes where there were a lot of book available to read. I want to provide books in my room that they can get easily anytime they want to borrow one. I also want to provide them with a lot of books that I have read and can recommend to them.
My Project
One of the most important skills our students need is the ability to read well. It's much easier to practice that skill when they enjoy what they're reading. Kelly Gallagher, author of Readicide, says that access to interesting, age appropriate text is one of the most important factors in getting kids to read.
I want to get high-interest, young adult novels to create a classroom library for my students.
Having great books in my room allows for ease of check-out, and allows me and my students to easily share books with one another and do book talks for the class.
I chose a combination of popular authors, like Rick Riordan, and less familiar authors, like Maria V. Snyder that write books in popular genres. I also tried to choose a lot of books that I had read myself so that it would be easier for me to recommend books to students in my classes. With these books, we'll be able to spend class time each week enjoying reading while also building reading fluency and stamina for our regular classroom work.
