This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
Each day my students come to learn at our school in Baltimore City. While my students face many challenges, both inside and outside of school, they still show up every day to prepare for their futures. Some of my students are enrolled in the P-TECH program, which provides them the opportunity enroll in college courses, complete an internship, and ultimately to pursue a career in technology.
My students inspire me.
They are curious, funny, charismatic, and incredibly smart. We are continuously working toward creating a classroom environment that promotes learning, collaboration, and creativity. My students love discussing what they're reading, and they are absolutely thrilled when we get the opportunity to write creatively.
My Project
My students and I are in need of some high-interest books for our classroom library. We will be spending quite a bit of time reading, both inside and outside the classroom, this year. These books will positively impact my students in so many ways! If my students have the opportunity to choose their own books to read, books they are genuinely interested in, their engagement will increase tremendously. They will be more likely to discuss what they are reading, recommend the title to a peer, and, most importantly, develop a love for reading! They will also build valuable skills that will help them in school and in their future careers, skills such as increased vocabulary and reading comprehension.
