Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Help give my students the opportunity to choose books that interest them from their classroom library! Due to budget cuts, it is very difficult for us to update our classroom libraries with new books from current authors. These are the books my students WANT to read!

I teach fifth grade in an underfunded school serving a low-income community in New York.

The students in my classroom come from a diverse cultures. They range in ability level from far below grade level to above grade level, and includes students that have individualized education plans to meet their needs and provide them with a successful learning environment. We have a large population of English language learners. Our school is currently partnering with another local non-profit organization to offer free English classes to the parents of these students.

My Project

I am asking for an array of books from popular, current children's authors. Many students need motivation to read and sometimes a new book does the trick. Children at a young age become partial to certain authors, and n fifth grade, we often use our favorite authors as mentors for when we write our own stories. I want to give my students every and any motivation i have to get them to read. Practice makes perfect, right? My students get so excited when the new book orders come out, they circle all of the books they want their parents to buy for them. However, many of the parents cannot afford to buy their children these books and due to large family size and working parents, my students are not getting to the public library as often as they should either. I want these books for my classroom so that my students will want to read. They can read multiple books by authors they love and really learn about an author's craft and style.

Please help me motivate my students and teach them to love reading!

With new and interesting books I can do this! My students deserve the opportunity to read new books. They deserve the opportunity to read the authors they love. They deserve every opportunity to succeed. With your help this can be possible! Please help me show my students the enjoyment of reading a brand new book from an amazing children's author!
