This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
As many of my students would tell you, the vision of our unique and wonderful school is to prepare all scholars for college success, inspired and ready to exceed any expectation.
Students are primarily coming from New Orleans East, the Desire area, and the Lower Ninth Ward.
They are a driven, enthusiastic, and a genuinely kind group of high schoolers who love to read. We want more resources for our school library department so students can interact with a wider breadth of material at a greater depth.
My Project
In partnership with our high school's librarian, I am seeking high interest titles to add to the school's current selection. These books will be shared school-wide with mid-level readers to boost their exposure to new vocabulary and motivate them to keep reading new texts.
We are seeking titles that are already popular amongst our students, as well as titles that represent diverse perspectives and backgrounds.
Selected books include The Ni-Ni Girls and The Prada Plan series, Pride, The Belles, and This Is Kind of an Epic Love Story.
Students who read a great volume at challenging levels are the likeliest to make growth. Reading level is our greatest indicator for college and career success. Help us add to the selection that our library has to offer!
