My Students
My classroom consists of enthusiastic 8 and 9 year-olds. Our school lies in a rural, high-poverty district in western Maine. Although my students are faced with many challenges, they remain energetic, inquisitive, and creative.
My students are driven by curiosity; they constantly make insightful connections about the world around us.
My goal as a teacher is to create a classroom environment that fosters a love of learning and allows my students to explore their curiosity about the world. As I gain experience in education, I recognize how important it is to create a classroom space and environment that best meets the needs of my students. They need opportunities to explore, move, and create to develop as learners.
My Project
Third grade students are gaining independence as readers and exploring their reading interests. I want to offer students a variety of high-interest books that are exciting, engaging, and accessible.
The books I have selected will help students grow as independent readers. When I looked at my classroom library, I realized many of my books are too difficult for many of my students. The books I have selected will meet students where they are at. More importantly, these are books kids will be excited to read! I want to give students books that are engaging whether they are reading at school or at home.
