My students need The Magic Tree House series of books because they grab reluctant readers' attention while introducing them to the rich vocabulary and a variety of historical eras.

Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
As an reading interventionist, I work with students that score in the lowest ten percentile of Reading in grades one through three. I work in a Title I school in a small district in Texas.
My students are struggling readers that fall in the bottom ten percent in reading skills and sadly most of them are boys.
They are from low social economic backgrounds. Many of my students come from homes where English is not the first language spoken. We have students from Latin America, Asia, Africa and the Middle East. My goal is to grow students' skills a year and a half to decrease the gap between students in intervention and average students. To do this, I need my students to practice reading. To encourage them to practice reading, I need books that are interesting to them.
My Project
The Magic Tree House series has both exciting characters and interesting adventures in amazing settings. All these attributes combine to make stories that are interesting to reluctant readers.
My students struggle with reading and may have not yet developed a love of reading.
Introducing them to a great series can spark that flame. Having familiar characters from book to book helps them to connect with the stories more easily and look forward to the next adventure.
Hooking my students on this series is a great way to help the students grow in confidence with their reading and will hopefully encourage a life-long love of reading.
