My students need art and science materials for our classroom. I have been teaching my students about how species evolve over time and would like to have supplies to create some projects.

Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Our school is a tuition-free public charter school providing a rigorous college preparatory experience to elementary and junior high students in Salt Lake city. At our school, we are laying the foundation of financial security for our students and we are training future doctors, engineers, lawyers, scientists, artists, and presidents.
My 7th grade class is comprised of 34 amazing students, many of whom come from bilingual households and more than 90% qualify for free lunch.
My students have a powerful voice, and it is my task to help them grow as informed, conscientious citizens, but they have limited access to novels and books of interest. We know a good story can unlock wonder and build the empathy needed to not just survive middle school, but develop into amazing teenagers ready to take on the world around them.
I feel privileged to teach such wonderful students. They challenge me and push me in positive ways I never imagined. I want them to know I believe in them and they can do anything.
My Project
Students will design a butterfly with the use of crayons, markers, and colored pencils so that it can be hidden somewhere in the room. The object is to make the butterfly as invisible as possible. Students in the next class or on the next day will look for the butterflies.
The students will use scissors to cut the butterflies out, and the markers crayons, and colored pencils to design them.
These supplies will help students make the connection that traits are inherited and some traits enable better survival. A butterfly that is best camouflaged in its environment has the best chance to survive and pass its color pattern on. The colorful patterns may be the result of genetic diversity or mutation.
