My students a LCD projector.

Medical students need to learn accurate and precise information before obtaining careers in the medical profession. Our school is located in a rural area with one hospital to serve several counties. Throughout our area there is a shortage of medical staff. We offer Allied Health Science I and II and Health Team Relations at our school. Students that successfully complete Allied Health II will have their CNA certification. Students in this program are 10-12 grade students who desire a career in the medical field. Many will further their education after high school, but a large majority of our students are seeking CNA certification so they can stay here locally and find a job. I teach approximately 100 students each year. This is my second year in the education field after working 21 years in the medical profession.
Coming from the real world in the medical field to a public education classroom was a culture shock for me. Students do not have updated equipment or technology to be in line with the changing demands in the medical field. There is a wealth of information to be shared, but little to no means to share the information with a class of 20 + students. Trying to prepare students to be ready for the medical field without the correct equipment is like going to the hospital for a band-aid. It is not working!
I am requesting an LCD projector to assist in showing updated software programs such as A.D.A.M. which allows students to remove layers off of the body to see each system. It has interactive components, sound and animation to help the students understand each system in the body. The projector will also be used for videos, PowerPoint presentations and charts. Currently I have a few computers and an overhead projector to introduce the systems to the students.
When I feel poorly and have to go to a doctor, I want to make sure he is one of great knowledge. I want to leave with a solution to my problem. As an educator, I want to make sure that my students who are pursuing careers in the medical field leave me with a great knowledge on the subjects taught and they too will have solutions to problems they could face in the next classroom or with a patient. To help our students be the best that they can be, we as educators have to provide the best for them. The old fashion overhead, transparency and marker are too obsolete. We've got to step up to the 'show me', 'engage me' and 'teach me' methods of education.
