Celebrating Black History Month

This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.

My Students

My first graders are AWESOME! They are explorers and they are constantly on the move. My school is a place where teachers work hard to educate children from the inside out, emphasizing holistic learning to enhance student growth. We emphasize being safe, being kind, being respectful and being responsible each day in our little classroom. I work with 20 amazing and hardworking students who are extremely eager to learn, participate, and support each other's learning throughout the day.

Our school is a Title I school that serves many military families that are connected to Fort Bragg and 100% of our students receive free or reduced-price lunch.

We are a low wealth district in Cumberland county.

My class is full of students with a variety of interests, experiences, needs, and strengths. With the resources and structure they need to apply their curiosity, they will continue to develop into strong learners and balanced individuals. I may not be able to control their home lives, but I really try to provide meaningful and memorable experiences for them every day.

My Project

Now that we are about halfway through the school year, my regular and EC students are running low on some basic supplies to help them continue to be successful learners. Though it may seem simple, basic supplies are essential to my students completing special projects as well as just everyday learning.

With a low budget for supplies, it can be difficult to obtain basic supplies such as markers, whiteboards, glue sticks, etc.

In the past, I have gone and bought extra of these supplies, but the cost adds up quickly. I am turning to you and DonorsChoose to help us stock back up on these basic supplies.

The supplies I am requesting for this project are consumable classroom basics. The crayons, folders, composition books pencils, erasers, and chart paper are essential basic supplies used by my students every day. Our current whiteboards are very worn and are almost unusable. All of these supplies are necessary and are used by my students to complete daily academic tasks in the areas of literacy, math, art, science, and social studies.

Please help us get these supplies so that our first-grade classroom will continue to function properly.
