I have nineteen wonderful kindergartners! I have had the privilege of teaching them for the past semester. They are smart, loving, and precious. This class wants to learn new things. They want each of their classmates to do their very best. I have taught kindergarten for twenty-three years, and each class inspires me to be a better teacher and person.
Each year, I am so excited to welcome a new class of students.
This is their first year in "big kids" school, so they want to learn everything. They come from a wide range of socioeconomic backgrounds. Some student's families are self-sufficient and others benefit from a free or reduced lunch and our backpack food program.
The beginning of the school year in Kindergarten, as Forrest Gump would say, " is like a box of chocolates...you never know what you are going to get!" Some students will begin the school year with previous educational experiences and for others they will be experiencing learning for the very first time. Either way, they are all eager to learn!
My Project
Each day we do literacy and math centers. During center time students are actively engaged in various learning activities. I would like incorporate new dramatic play centers such as a kitchen, a grocery store, and restaurants. Dramatic play helps children explore different roles and situations through playing with items and tools that adults use in every day life.
Dramatic play provides opportunities for students to work together to build social skills and develop good manners.
I plan to add things like grocery advertisements, shopping list pads, pencils, menus, guest checks, cash registers, calculators, and role playing items. These dramatic play centers will help students communicate and develop oral language and mathematical vocubulary. Help me help these students by giving whatever amount you can. Your donation will help to provide our dramatic play centers with pretend food, cooking items, and restaurant materials. I know this will make a huge difference in my classroom.
