My Students
I teach in a moderate/severe SDC (special day class) with students of varying abilities and personalities. I have eleven students total; three kindergartner's, three first grader's, one second grader, and four third graders. They are all learning letter, number, and sight word recognition to build their literacy and math skills. Additionally, they are practicing letter formation, sentence structure, and paragraph writing/typing.
My students are full of energy, eager to learn, and are capable of thriving in a structured environment with individualized supports provided.
They have great personalities and they benefit from routines, visual supports, and positive reinforcement. Some of the needs my students have are sensory, visual, tactile, and audio.
My Project
The items I am requesting for my class will meet a variety of needs in the classroom environment. The carpet will serve as a clean place to meet for our daily morning meetings, calendar and story time. The colored rows will give students a visual of where they should sit according to their table colors and reduce conflicts. They will also use the carpet for gross motor exercise, yoga/meditation and music and movement brain breaks!! The water/sensory table will serve as an incentive to complete daily tasks and a calming tool.
The donations from this project will allow my students the opportunity to engage in a variety of gross and fine motor activities and tasks and promote positive social interactions!
Students will learn how to collaborate with one another working in small groups. They will learn to take turns, share materials, and express themselves on the carpet, at the water table and during building activities. They will also learn to work together to keep our classroom community clean.
