AP Calculus is such a demanding course and fortunately, students are permitted to use advanced calculators on sections of the exam. However, we need more calculators since we have more students than ever taking calculus!
My students are some of the most awesome students in the entire state of Virginia!
They have bright futures ahead of them and they strive for success. They are members of a small school set in a rural community so they have formed close bonds with their classmates over the years. These kids have pushed themselves all through school to be the best they can be, and all their hard work is finally paying off. Some students are looking forward to graduation and preparing for what life has in store for them after high school. These kids will be the next innovators and they will certainly leave their mark!
My Project
AP Calculus is such a rigorous course and students are required to use calculators to perform advanced functions and operations such as derivatives and integrals. The TI-89 calculator is the ultimate Calculus calculator because it performs these operations with efficiency and they are easy to use. However, if not all students have a TI-89 calculator to use they will be at a severe disadvantage when it comes time for the AP exam in May.
We will be able to get so much more calculus done in class if all students are using the same calculator. If each student is using a different type of calculator in class we will waste too much of our 50 minute class going over the different steps for each calculator and we run the risk of missing out on the actual learning of calculus.
Enrollment in AP calculus at this small school has grown tremendously over the years.
Unfortunately, we do not have near enough calculators for each student to have and many students cannot afford to purchase a calculator for their own use. These kids will most certainly make a difference in the world and your donation will make them one step closer. Thanks!
