Help me give my students access to a variety of great books engaging in African-American history, such as, Maya Angelou (Little People, BIG DREAMS). Allow them to take the time out and learn their history.

Welcome to our class! We are the Tenacious Thundercats at a public charter school which educates urban youth of all learning abilities. In our class we aim to empower students in a supportive, social and educational environment. We hope to address and reduce the barriers to academic success. At the end of the school year the Tenacious Thundercats will be resourceful, resilient, and independent students who have the necessary skills to obtain their full potential and the ability to build a better future.
These materials will be used during the month of February to help my students take a walk through the past and present. Through the eyes of African Americans that have contributed to the culture of the United States, students will complete biographies, and create an artistic scene using our classroom bulletin and the classroom walls. They will create a collage of information and pictures allowing visitors to literally take a walk through history, to our present and taking a peek into the future.
Black History is a time of celebrating and thanking those African-Americans for giving hope or a life lesson that could be used for our future leaders.
