We are a Title 1 school in North Houston, Texas. We have many student clubs such as robotics, debate, and HOSA that compete nationally. Our goal at our school is to increase equity and access to these programs to more of our economically disadvantaged students and help every student think of themselves as a successful scholar. Some of our seniors graduate from high school as the first high school graduate in their family. Even more are often the first person to go to college in their family. Our STEM school has many well behaved students that do not get enough appreciation for doing the right thing.
Although our students are not as fortunate in their home lives as others, they work hard to get an education and to become successful in their futures.
We want to reward them for this behavior and encourage all students to have a strong and positive character. The opportunity to brighten their day, recognize their successes and reward their triumphs through adversity is our constant goal and we are always looking for the funding that will allow us to do that in creative and fun ways.
Our school is a Title 1 high school located in Houston Texas. This year we are promoting six values that we want all students to grow in. The six values create an acronym called HEROES - Honesty, Empathy, Respect, Obligation, Engagement, Selflessness. In adopting these values our students are given the tools to become the greatest of contributors in our in the classroom, in our school and our community. We want to convey to them that the foundation of their success begins with the heart and in forming a community in which through supporting others you in turn receive support. In order to encourage our students to work toward these traits we will have a student store where students can buy a variety of items that will be purchased with positive points "Vibranium" to go along with our HERO theme.
As a Title 1 school many of our students cannot afford to buy a basketball or a pair of headphones, therefore our store will give them a chance to purchase those items and promote positive behavior.
In society we give a lot of attention to the negative but not enough to the positive and we want to change that on our campus. We will appreciate our students for being honest, empathetic, respectful, responsible, engaged, and selfless. The message is that by being positive members of a community you can bring yourself personal success and fulfillment. Being able to “shop” at our school store is a way to demonstrate this principle to our students. Rewards, both intrinsic and extrinsic, can come from building community and helping others! Please donate to help the next generation develop positive character traits."
