Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
I teach at a Title I school. Our expectations are very high and our students possess unlimited potential. Unfortunately, our students face many financial obstacles given the numerous budget cuts that have taken place. Sadly, they no longer have all the necessary resources needed to help them excel.
I teach at a small, but very diverse public school composed of numerous ethnic groups from different socioeconomic backgrounds.
This year my class consists of very dedicated and capable students. We have a very challenging and interesting year ahead of us. My students are very curious and love asking many questions about the world in which they live. They are in third grade and this is a transition year which is key to their future success. I am very proud of my students for working diligently so far this year, but I want to ensure that they leave my class well-prepared for the future.
My Project
In order for students to be successful, they need to be confident and have positive self-esteem. I am planning a project titled "Heritage Boxes." Students will create culture boxes that will represent whom they are. They will demonstrate their "American" experience growing up, as well as, their families' cultures. The students will create their boxes, set them up with artifacts from both the U.S. and another country (sometimes more than one), and give oral presentations. Students can come away feeling proud of their identities and learn more about their classmates' background.
The materials I have requested will provide students with information from many cultures and countries. I have requested a continents of the world activity chest, a continents of the world photo book series, a geography center, and multiple biographies.
So, any contributions our students receive will serve to give them the resources and tools they need to better prepare them for a bright and successful future.
Our kids are the future and let's not allow financial restraints from allowing our kids to maximize their potential. Our future inventors, humanitarians, and leaders are in our classrooms. Let's not permit them to fall through the cracks. Our students (future) thank you in advance.
