My band students have a ton of enthusiasm. They walk into the room for 48 minutes, 2 times a week, and work very hard to produce two concerts a year at our school. We have a small budget for our band which covers our sheet music purchases, and small items for the year but not much else.
Our band has more than doubled since I began teaching at our school in 2000.
The students consider the bandroom their home.
My Project
Students in my percussion section have been using old (yet manageable) cymbals for the last 10 years, and have been using the same equipment for auxiliary percussion since I began teaching at my school 20 years ago.
The band has been starting to play more difficult music and we have more members in our percussion section.
Given this situation, it will be beneficial to have new instruments to use in addition to our old ones.
When my students go to perform in front of other schools, or their families, I want them to be proud of the instruments that they are playing.
