Here a Chick, There a Chick, Everywhere a Chick, Chick!
My students need this classroom incubator set to go along with our Living Things unit. The set includes an egg incubator, egg scope to candle the eggs, and a chick brooder to keep the chicks warm.
My class is made up of 18 young kindergarteners who love school and are eager to learn! They love to read, especially non-fiction books! They come from various backgrounds but the majority of them receive free or reduced-price lunch. Because of this, I try to do a lot of special activities in the classroom to give them opportunities that they would not get at home.
My students are creative, energetic and inquisitive kindergarteners who love to learn and are constantly asking questions!
My projects on DonorsChoose.org are designed to help them question, research, reflect and grow as learners!
My Project
These materials will give my students the opportunity to see real eggs hatching. They will get to experience the joy of seeing chicks grow in the eggs through candling and then hatching into baby chicks! The children will get to see the life cycle of a chick firsthand instead of just reading about it in books!
Our standard on living things will come alive as my kindergarteners experience this real life hatching of baby chicks.
They will research and journal chick facts and compare their chick experience with hatching butterflies and ladybugs. The children will keep a daily journal of what they are experiencing and will share their experience with their families at our Living Things Open House for families.
