I teach 3rd graders. Some are motivated and independent and some are still learning to be independent. At this grade level, students are filled with excitement and imagination because they are becoming 'big kids'. They are learning multiplication and division, they are reading novels independently, and they are right at the thresh hold of being the 'big kids'!
Independent thinking skills are what I want to instill in my third graders.
I want them to see themselves as self directed learners who are actively engaged in their own education. I want my students to have the resources they need to solve problems. I continually seek opportunities for my students to direct their own learning and to help them become independent problem solvers.
My Project
Having Chromebooks in the classroom for the students to use, will allow my third graders to research independently during writing, publish their writing, create slide show presentations, and access computer programs that will challenge their math skills.
Chromebooks are great to use in the classroom because their portability allows the students to work at their seats as part of a group.
Students can collaborate online to create shared slideshow projects. Students who need a challenge will be able to work independently among classmates with out disturbing each other. During research activities, students can share their learning and the Chromebook to support their learning. Having Chromebooks in the classroom will allow students to have a multitude of learning options at their fingertips.
