This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
My 3-year-olds are some of the most amazing children I have ever met. They thrive while living in one of the most dangerous communities in our nation's capital. Some have gone through more in their young lives than many of us will ever have to endure in a lifetime. Yet every day, they walk down a hill to school where they are able to escape the violence that riddles their neighborhood and find solace in our classroom. Despite all of the challenges they face outside the school walls, they still come to school each day ready and excited to learn.
My students blossom with the educational and enrichment opportunities being offered, which helps them to build their background knowledge and exposes them to things they otherwise wouldn't be exposed to.
For all of them, coming to school is where they have opportunities to build their academic and social foundations to set them up for success later in life.
My Project
One of the most challenging parts for our students to complete their homework at home is not having the materials they need to complete their homework. For PK students, homework essentials include pencils, crayons, glue, and scissors. With these materials, students will be able to coast through completing their homework.
These materials will give students everything they need to complete homework throughout the school year while giving them a place to store it and keep it safe.
Students will use the pencil cases to store their materials in at home so they do not get lost. Each student will also receive a homework folder to transport their homework too and from school. They will use the foam letters to customize their box with their name. They will then use the pencils and crayons to practice writing, color recognition and fine motor skills. They will also use the scissors to develop fine motor skills with cutting and pasting activities.
