Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

These students come from a variety of backgrounds and experiences but what they have in common is the goal to improve themselves and their community through education. Over 85% of these students qualify for free or reduced lunch. They are dreamers and doers who have engaged in a variety of community projects from building a designing an outdoor learning environment for the United Way to volunteering to support middle school students with their homework.

Our collective futures depend upon an educated group of young people ready to take on leadership roles.

These students see themselves as agents for change within their complex communities.

We are looking to add to our library a collection of books to inspire these future leaders with information about what other young people have done to become agents for change within their community

My Project

Bringing my students the information about how our collective history has been told and retold over the years will help them to critically analyze some of the current oppression many of them are living with every day. Reading about other young people who have worked to change this oppression will empower them to believe in themselves.

Young people need to see themselves reflected in the stories that are told.

Too often they are sent a message both literally and through our media that they have little or no value to society. Our young people are our future; these books will help to lift them up.
