About My Students

The Allied Health Care students have a wonderful community service project , as part of their student career and college academy student organization , SkillsUSA Ohio . They have begun this project with the assistance of their adviser and volunteers from AmeriCorps as part of HPAC ( The Health Professions Affinity Community ) .

These students have decided to collect personal hygiene products for the many homeless people in their community. They will donate these items to an area homeless shelter once they receive material donations, or monetary donations to purchase them.

They have already contacted several retail stores in their area and have applied for a grant to get funding. Please help these healthcare students reach their goal of providing needed supplies to people who are less fortunate than they are. They are not only learning what empathy and compassion is, but also the importance of giving back to their community.Thank you for your consideration.

The students will develop academic skills by researching a health care need in their own community , making an academic presentation board that describes in detail the project and presenting it at NEOMED next month. They will develop teamwork skills by working together to develop short and long term goals of developing a way to help solve this health care need. They have already shown the development of empathy by choosing this project after seeing the many homeless people who live within their own community.

In Their Own Words

We need sanitary hygiene items such as toothpaste, toothbrushes, soap, hand sanitizer, shampoo and lotion to give to the homeless. Our goal is to collect and distribute personal hygiene products to the homeless in Akron, Ohio. With our project we hope to improve the health of our community by improving their health.

We will make this project work by having fundraisers and collecting donations from the community. We will do this by selling candy and sending out letters to area businesses for their support. We have put in many hours working on this to raise at least $500.00 to purchase items. We will work with our community to give back to those who don't have what they need to care for themselves.

This project is important because we want to give back to our community. We want our community to improve its health. Through this project we wish to improve someones life which will contribute to the betterment of the community. Our project will help give access to hygiene products which can help tackle health related issues.
