Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Most of my students read and write below grade level. By the end of the year, I want my students to become more independent learners. My goal is for them to use and understand the English language more effectively while reading and in their writing as well as become fluent in mathematics.
My school is a Title 1 low income school.
About 80% of my students are English Language Learners. As Spanish is their native language. Many of my students are reading below one or two grade levels.
My school specializes in Personalized Learning. This means students work at their own pace and work towards mastery of their learning standards.
My Project
Students will use these materials in daily small group instruction. They will be taught how to read and write new vocabulary using the table-top white board. They will be taught how applying grammar knowledge can elaborate their writing by learning from the grammar books requested. Students will learn how to regroup in adding and subtracting using the regrouping chart which is a very hard skill to master without concrete models such as the ones in the math resource I am requesting. Students will also learn the steps of adding and subtracting using the table-top whiteboard during small groups.
Students will become better writers and readers after being taught using the whiteboard during my instructional modeling.
The grammar books will provide students with examples of how to use grammar to improve their writing. Students will become proficient in the steps to addition and subtraction with regrouping using the "regrouping chart". These materials will help to increase students' confidence as they improve their abilities in reading, writing, and math.
