Help me give my students the items needed to start a Drumline, bucket brigade and guitar method class. These items will help make music fun and inviting for my students.
This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
Our school is a small, rural school that resides on the outside of Fairmont North Carolina. In a district with large classes, minimal music resources, low socioeconomic climate, teaching music in our Title 1 district is increasingly becoming more difficult. Because of these factors, funding for the music classroom is almost nonexistent. Students in our area cannot afford the cost of instruments or materials, and limited funding from the school makes it almost impossible for the students to receive the quality instruction needed. School provided instruments are in poor condition, which creates a problem for those who would like to participate in music classes or band. My students, who are predominantly Native American and African American, seem to take all of this in stride. They take what is given to them and create great music, but as their teacher I would like to see them create extraordinary music.

This is my first year working with these students and I have learned that this group of students all have amazing talent and potential but have not had the resources to let these skills show.
My Project
My students haven't had a music teacher in a few years, this being my first year I want to bring new ideas to make music fun and exciting for my students.
All of my students have an interest in playing the drums or guitar and it is my goal to help them achieve this.
New drum sticks will replace the broken painted toy sticks so students can play with correct technique without worrying about getting splinters. The guitar pics and method books will allow students to learn to play guitar and learn the necessary techniques to read and understand notation. Through this projects it is my goal to start the way to building a band program in future years.
