At our high school, we embrace a variety of cultures. We embrace a variety of shapes and sizes, and we embrace languages. The two most highly spoken languages, other than English, are Somali and Spanish. Our school is a fully accredited International Baccalaureate School in the Middle Years and Diploma Programes. Approximately 25% of our students are open-enrolled, meaning their parents elected to send them here, instead of a home district school. The free and reduced lunch percentage is 80%.
Our students are quick studies, and they are resilient.
Because of their makeup, we provide opportunities for them to shine now and take that shine with them as they develop their future selves outside of our walls.
My Project
Even though our students are resilient, we struggle with funding in developing our STEM Program. Our students have worked hard to build our robot this year, but we are missing an important piece of the product.
We have all the skills and products necessary to build the robot; however, we need a computer that is capable of completing the programming and operating of the student built machine.
This computer would greatly benefit our robotics team. Each year we participate in 2 regional events. This computer would give our students a chance to collaborate with each other while continuing to program and operate the robot that they have worked so hard on.
