Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Our students are incredible! They have overcome so many challenges present in 2020. Every morning, students come off the bus and are ready to take on another school day. I love their friendship, compassion, and caring for not only other students but also adults.
Our kiddos really care about each other.
I love their kindness. Even when a situation is challenging, they really want to take care of each other. Our school is a gift, and I am so proud to be a part of it.
My Project
Every day, my students are coping with very real challenges. As a new school counselor, I am constantly building my resources to support each unique story. These Teachers Pay Teachers giftcards will be an invaluable piece that I can utilize with my students. Many times, teachers will ask for resources for a particular student struggling with anxiety, or depression, or anger, or parent divorce, or a wide variety of other issues. They frequently call upon me to help support either individual students or their entire class. If I have the ready resource of Teachers Pay Teachers gift cards, I can avoid using more of my personal funds and be able to pick the best resource for each situation.
My students have such a special opportunity to come to a safe and welcoming school every day.
I aspire to expand this gift into my own school counseling office. When they are upset, the last thing they need is a stark and scary environment to enter. The lamps and weighted blanket will help them feel safe and comfortable. One goal from this project is to help provide just such an experience for them.
I am a strong believer in utilizing art and crafts for therapy. Older students, especially, begin to shut down and feel less comfortable sharing. By having watercolor paper available, I can help give these students a therapeutic outlet.
A final piece from this project is the cushions for alternative seating. Especially with these new Covid-19 restrictions, children are unable to move about as frequently as in the past. Sometimes, they need additional support to be more successful in the classroom.
