My students are resilient. We are a low-income, rural school where students come to school ready and yearning to learn. They are learning to become critical thinkers who can also be creative thinkers. My students have a passion to succeed in life and live up to our school motto - "Lead, Encourage, Achieve, Dream".
I work in a school with approximately 500 students in grades Pre-K - 5 with 90% free and reduced-price lunch.
My students want and need to feel loved and cared about at school and it is my number one priority to give that to them. I also strive to provide them with resources and experiences that they might not otherwise get.
I belong to a faculty and staff that truly love what we do and aim to give our best to our students every day. Our students are brave, unique, and talented in many, many ways.
My Project
I am going to begin a popular home reading program this year with my students. Students will be able to choose 2 books EACH DAY to take home and read. This cart, the bins, and the bags will assist me and my parent volunteers in keeping the materials organized and accessible for my students.
My students come from low income homes with little access to books each night.
I am trying to create a program that will help my students gain more reading time each day. This program would allow my students to be able to have 2 new books each night to read. One book that they can read independently, and one book that will be read to them by someone in their home.
By doing this, I am making sure that not having books to read at home is not an option or excuse for students to not succeed.
