After teaching for 6 years, I have found that most of the parents do not have the resources to help their children at home with their child's homework.
I would like to provide the necessary resources for the parents, first by providing a parent workshop on how to use the manipulatives and how to interact with their child with the manipulatives and also to provide a contract on promptly returning the materials so that another child may use that particular Homework back pack.
I teach about 23 students every year and each year they do not have appropriate level books for them to read at home. They do not have the supplies they need to help them complete their daily homework.
Lakeshore has mini back packs filled with manipulatives for children to take home and work on. The activities range from recognition of letters to recognition of numbers to identifying different farm animals to identifying colors.
These skills are needed for Kindergarten students to master. In our county students in Kindergarten must be reading on a 5-6 level before going to 1st grade. This is hard to obtain, when the students do not know any of the alphabet or numbers. The more hands on experiences these children have will provide the expected growth for my children to learn.
My students' parents and I work hard together to help our children learn. We want our children's education to be the best it can possibly be.
