Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
The students that I serve are especially resilient and oh yes, SUPER amazing! They happily and excitedly come to our classroom ready to learn! The never ending smiles on their faces make coming to work and teaching that much more rewarding. A vast majority of the students I work with live in subsidized housing "projects" and 100% of them receive free and/or reduced meals. Sadly, the food they receive at school is the most nourishing meal(s) of their day.
My students deserve so much more than what our school receives from our local district.
There is rarely enough money for school supplies. They deserve everything that their counterparts who live crosstown receive.
My Project
I am so excited to get back to my classroom! We have yet to hear what schools and individual classrooms will look like but ONE thing is for sure. We will most likely have to distance ourselves within our classrooms. I know I will have some students at their desks while others are work on the carpet. For the ones on the carpet, I want them to have a desk to write on. For the ones at a desk, I want them to have a seat cushion because we all know how uncomfortable those old wooden chairs are!
These materials will make a difference in my students' learning because they will know they are safe AND comfortable in our classroom!
