Kids learn best when they are having fun. These center activities seem like games to the kids, but really they will be learning invaluable comprehension strategies that will be used the rest of their lives.
My school is considered a Title 1 school.
That means that more than 40% of the students who attend are below poverty level. My classroom is full of energetic, sweet, ready to learn 7 and 8 year olds. My students are hands on learners. They learn best when they are actively participating in group work, a game, or project.
My Project
This comprehension pack includes games, books, and center activities. I would use these items as a class, in partners, and in groups. This kit has the tools to teach all seven of the major comprehension strategies that when combined make a strong reader. First, I would use the center dry erase activities to introduce a strategy. Then, I would use the games to help students practice the strategy. Finally, students could do extenuation projects based on the books to help them understand the strategy at a higher level.
Donations will help improve my classroom by helping my students learn the best way they can; through games, projects and group work.
As a teacher the best gift I can give to my students is the love of reading. Once they are able to understand these strategies it will make reading more enjoyable. My goal is to help my students love reading, because reading can take you anywhere.
