This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
Our school is a K-5 Title 1 school with 100% of our students on free breakfast and lunch. In our low-income/high poverty school district, my students are faced with many challenges both in and out of the classroom. They face dilemmas daily that include hunger, homelessness, anxiety, depression, grief, deployed parents, and much more. Despite the many challenges they face, I look forward to keeping things simple and providing them with creative and meaningful learning experiences in a safe environment. My students are creative, energetic, and have an unquenchable thirst for knowledge. As the School Counselor, I work with students primarily on character education, social/emotional development, college and career readiness, and financial literacy.
My Project
Our mentor program need items to establish the Helping Hand Pantry to support the varied basic needs of our students. This project is one of our community service projects and we believe that help leads to hope. The pantry will be a peer to peer humanitarian effort and will assist the students in learning first-hand the importance of giving back to those in need. We need your help to bring this project to fruition. Supporting our disadvantaged students by providing the basic needs will allow them to focus on their primary goal…. Education.
Our students present with a myriad of concerns on a daily basis and often limited resources cause them to go without the basic needs that many take for granted.
Unfortunately, our families live daily with circumstances that cause them to become homeless and void of basic needs. Help us support our students by removing barriers that interfere with their education. Our school participates in a project that provides weekend food care packages for disadvantaged students, but allocations are limited so not all students in need are serviced.
We are requesting your support to purchase non-perishable food items, personal care hygiene products, and school supplies to stock the Helping Hand Pantry. Having the basic essentials makes life a little more bearable when a student and his/her family are displaced or just simply does not have the resources. The supplies will be placed in our Helping Hand Pantry and given to the students on an as needed basis. The mentor program students will also make cards with inspirational messages that will bring a smile to the faces of all who benefit from the pantry.
Help us fight against hunger and provide the affected students the resources needed to enjoy clean and healthy living.
