Helping Grow Strong First Grade Readers With Shared Reading!
My students need an easel to use during shared reading time in our classroom. Shared reading helps my students master reading strategies and grow to love reading!
My first graders love to learn, but many of them had not found their true love for reading until we started having shared reading time in my classroom. Using big books to teach a variety of reading strategies has grown my students' love for reading!
I am blessed to work with some amazing first graders every day!
My desire and goal is for each of them to grow a love for learning and reading that follows them throughout their lives. I want them to take responsibility for their own learning and get excited about learning new things!
I am blessed to be a first grade teacher in a small Kentucky town. Unfortunately, many of my students live below the poverty line and often do not have books or other learning materials at home. My goal is to create a safe, encouraging learning environment for my students where they can forget the troubles that are going on at home and become lifelong learners who are excited about learning and growing. I want to plant a love for learning in my students' hearts, and I strive to make sure all of my students feel safe and confident in our classroom. My dream for each of my students is for them to grow up to be individuals who love to learn and want to make the world a better place.
My Project
We spend part of our reading block each day taking part in shared reading. During this time, I work hard to choose big books that are not only entertaining and engaging for students but also can be used as learning tools that will teach my first graders a variety of reading strategies. I have watched so many of my students grow a love for learning because of this time in our reading block each day. They love reading the big books together as a class. I have watched so many of my students who were shy or felt that they weren't good readers bloom during this time.
This time each day gives me the opportunity to not only engage my students in reading interesting and engaging text but also to teach different reading strategies without my students even knowing they are learning! I would love to have an easel in my classroom to ensure all of my students can enjoy and learn from this important time in our daily schedule.
This will make a difference in my classroom by allowing all of my students to enjoy shared reading time.
This is a time each day where even my struggling readers enjoy diving deep into a good book. This easel would allow me to make sure all students can see the big book and learn as well!
This easel would also give me a place to store all of the big books. This would make it possible for me to leave big books out so they are available for students during independent reading time!
