Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
I work with students who have a wide variety of communication disorders ages Preschool through 5th grade. Some of my students are working on producing speech sounds so that others are able to understand them when they speak, while others are working on increasing their vocabulary and putting words together to form sentences to communicate.
The best part of my job is seeing my students make progress and become more successful and effective communicators.
The majority of my students are from low income areas and do not have the resources outside of the school setting to advance their learning. I love working with my students and their families to improve their ability to engage with the world around them.
My Project
Having access to an iPad will not only provide extra motivation for my students during speech therapy sessions but will give them the opportunity to learn how to use technology that their peers have access to. There are speech and language apps that help teach vocabulary, sentence structure, and how to produce specific speech sounds.
My students who have limited verbal skills will be able to learn to use the iPad as a communication device which will increase their ability to communicate with staff, peers, and their families.
There are so many various ways to use the iPad as a teaching tool that it will greatly benefit every student that I work with.
