Helping Cafeteria Chaos

My Students

I work with students from Pre-K through 9th grade directly. My students either have IEPS, 504s, or are students receiving Tier 3 interventions. My room is a revolving door of students coming in and out. My students all have obstacles to overcome and they work hard to overcome them. They work hard to achieve the goals they are working towards. I had one particular student say “I used to think I was dumb, but now I am starting to feel smarter!”

My Project

As we all know, the cafeteria can be a chaotic environment. This can sometimes cause an issue for students who are noise sensitive and/or trying to read. As a school, we are also trying to teach students appropriate noise volume in different settings.

Students often learn best by visuals.

This project includes two traffic lights that can be adjusted to different decibels. Students will know that if the light turns yellow, they need to lower their voice. If the light turns red, then no talking. This also will take out any bias of noise level on the adult side.
