Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Our school is located in Jackson Heights, NY. Most of our students come from low income families. Our class is an ICT classroom which provides supports to students with disabilities. The disabilities range from speech-language to autism. An ICT classroom has both general education students and special education students who work in groups to help each other. We use all the resources that are possible and given to us to help our students make progress.
Our students work hard with all the resources and materials that they have.
We enjoy seeing our students working together in partnerships.
My Project
Our students need resources and materials that will help them work in partnerships and small groups. They will work on phonics and mathematics with each other in pairs or in groups. These materials will help them understand concepts that are being presented to them by using concrete materials. They will be able to decompose and compose numbers within 20. They will learn high frequency words to help them be successful in reading.
For example, our students will work in small groups to decompose and compose numbers within 20 with fluency using ten frames.
