I will have 29 awesome students who vary tremendously in their abilities and interests. I try to present the fifth grade core content in a way that gets them excited to learn while allowing them to be confident and successful. My students love learning when they are able to have hands-on experiences to discover the reasons behind phenomena they see in the world around them.
My students are enthusiastic to learn despite the many challenges they face.
The school I teach at is located in a low income area. My school was 1% away from being qualified as a Title l so we do not receive extra funding and resources for being low income. With a lack of funding, it is extremely difficult to provide the exciting and challenging opportunities that my students need to improve.
My Project
This year, my students will each be assigned their own Chromebook to use during the school day. I am so excited to have so much technology at the fingertips of my students.
I want to be able to utilize this technology to its full potential.
A couple benefits from adding headphones and microphones to the Chromebooks include allowing for more accommodations to help struggling students and providing ways for my students to display their understanding.
My students have a wide range of reading levels and the headphones will allow my students to have text from various sources read to them. With the microphones, one thing my students will be able to do is record their explanations as they solve a math problem. I recently had my students do this but I do not have a class set of microphones. My students loved this activity so much that they begged to record math explanations again. Having my students explain their work as they solve math problems will help me to assess their learning and help them to develop a deeper understanding of what they know and what they are still confused on. In order to do this activity again, I need more microphones. The microphones will also help my students to be create presentations that have their own voice embedded.
