My Students

As a teacher in a high poverty/low-income school, I have students who are faced with adversity every day. I strive to create a classroom that is warm and inviting, so that they can focus on their learning!

My students are diverse and energetic, and love having opportunities to try engaging ways to learn in the classroom.

Our school is one of the most ethnically diverse schools in the district, with 80% of the students receiving free and reduced lunches. Many students also receive food packs for the weekend. We do lots of activities where the students move around the room, and are in different groups throughout the day. Students also need time during the day where they can work on their learning independently; often, this is done with the help of a Chromebook. Each student has access to their own device throughout the day.

My Project

Having durable headphones in a classroom that is 1-1 with technology is extremely important. My students use their Chromebooks daily, and need to be able to hear directions when using interactive online websites like Dreambox or Epic! These are examples of websites that help to differentiate math and reading for each of my students.

The ability to use technology appropriately is so important in the 21st century, and I want to make sure that my students are able to access all that their Chromebooks have to offer!

Using a Chromebook is one way that students are able to work independently in my classroom, and can provide a way for students to focus on their own learning.
