My Students

I work at a small, neighborhood school in Wisconsin. After teaching first grade for ten years, I have transitioned into the role of Reading Specialist. I feel very lucky to be able to serve the needs of the students in my school, which houses 4 year old kindergarten through third grade.

The students I support are struggling learners who require additional, intensive instruction matched to their needs.

To best serve my students, I need various teaching tools and resources in my classroom. I truly appreciate the support and resources that I have received in the past through Donors Choose. I would not be able to bring these materials into my classroom without help from donors like you.

My Project

My students use iPads multiple times each week to record and listen to their reading. This builds reading fluency skills. Standard headphones, however, are too large for many of my younger students. Because the headphones don't fit, students are trying to hold the headphones in place, balance the iPad and read a book at the same time! Headphones that are sized for primary children would allow my students to be "hands-free" and more focused when they are recording their reading.

It is important to provide children with the materials they need to be successful, independent learners.

I am also asking for clipboards for my students to use during writing, so they can choose where they would like to sit throughout the room.
