Help Young Scientists Learn to Read with Life Science Books
My students need non-fiction books to read with the teacher during guided reading center that will build their reading skills while connecting science and reading.
My first graders enjoy asking questions, investigating, and discovering new information through science projects and STEM activities. They are eager to read about topics they are curious about. By the end of the school year, I would like my little scientists to be confident readers.
When you are six years old it is really, really hard to focus on learning how to read during reading centers when all you can think about is the exciting hands-on science or STEM activity you get to work on after lunch.
Please help us obtain books for beginning readers that complement our science and STEM units so I can capture my little scientists' natural curiosity while I help them become confident readers.
My Project
Learning how to read is hard work and a major milestone. These books will be used during the guided reading center when the students meet with the teacher to teach them how to read. Each title will be used during the corresponding science or STEM unit. I have asked for six copies of each book because there are usually six students in each reading group.
Children are excited to read books that excite them.
Being able to teach with beginning readers that are about the topics we study in science and STEM will help my students stay focused and motivated because they will be able to read about what they want to learn about.
