My students need Special Needs learning aids for their educational success. The learning aids will help students regulate their behavior so they are ready to learn!
Special Needs preschool students in my class overcome hearing and speech impairments and psycho-social disorders including ADHD, autism, and anxiety. Together my students and I work to connect with other students and teachers in the classroom as well as build new skills. Soon they are ready to thrive in Kindergarten and beyond!
These young learners are from families and live in communities experiencing economic hardship.
They all qualify for Head Start preschool, which is the federal program for early childhood education.
My Project
Special Needs items will assist children in regulating their disabilities to learn and socialize in class. Due to limited community resources and Head Start grant funding for supplies, there are not enough learning aids. These aids help children expend negative physical and emotional energy. Otherwise, their feelings can create frustration and fatigue that can lead to emotional or combative outbursts that disrupt learning. Sensory aids also help children overcome difficulties with texture and touch, hand -eye coordination, and fine and gross motor skills. The items on the Special Needs Wish List are not just toys; they are crucial aids to help a child engage with the world around them.
Providing supports to children with disabilities and other special needs in their early years reduces their need for special education and other supports later in life (Educating Exceptional Children, 2008).
