This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
The children in my inner city Milwaukee K4 classroom are some of the most amazing and resilient young people I've ever met! Although many of my students have been through all types of trauma it doesn't suppress their desire and passion for learning new things. This hunger to learn is something that I try to foster in my classroom since Wisconsin is, unfortunately, No. 1 in the country for the widest graduation-rate gap between white and black students. I truly believe that my students are capable of changing our world for the better, and I just want to ensure that they have the supplies and exposure to experiences that will foster this.
My Project
One of the aspects of my job that I enjoy the most is working with children who have challenging behaviors. This is some of the most rewarding work I do, but in order to stay on top of the latest strategies and techniques, I am asking for some new educational books. I plan to use the research and strategies presented in the books I have requested to broaden my skill set to meet the needs of my students. Each child learns and interprets the world differently and I plan on using what I learn to help my students regulate themselves and their emotions so that they can be successful in the classroom.
