My Students
How do you expect to reach a student's full potential if you lack the basic supplies to do so? It's nearly impossible. I encourage my students to express themselves when they write and to be creative, but when you barely have enough paper to distribute to
the students it becomes a challenge.
I have been teaching in a low socioeconomic district for 10 years and the class I have this year is so full of creativity.
My students are eager learners and try hard, but supplies like pencils, paper, etc. are hard to come by. There are a lot of demands on NY teachers to produce average-to above average state test results, but I don't think lack of student resources are taken into account.
Sometimes free writing assignments last 2 periods and we go through several sheets of paper. It's upsetting to tell a student that they cannot write more because you know you are running low on writing paper or your pencil sharpener is broken.
My Project
The resources I am asking will promote an endless possibility of free expression and creativity. Paper, pencils, pencil sharpener, chart tablet, lined paper, etc. will help fulfill our basic needs not only in English Language Arts but all the common core subjects.
Donations to this project will help fulfill a need that my classroom has.
I love each of my students and wish I could provide everything they need but it becomes very costly on my own. Your help would mean the world to my students and would be used every day in our classroom.
