Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
As Mr. Spock once said, "Change is the process of all existence." Today's students are inundated with technology, and teachers must change the way we deliver curriculum. We must compete with YouTube, Xbox, iPods, and smartphones to keep students engaged. Why fight technology when we can use it?
My students have all been identified as highly gifted.
These children have special needs and require a differentiated instructional program to provide them with a challenging and rigorous academic setting. My students are inquisitive and thoughtful. They love to learn! It is up to me to bring in as much supplemental materials as possible to stimulate their minds and encourage their exploration of new concepts.
Since my students tend to perform very well on standardized tests, they are often overlooked and receive very little funding to support their educational program. Our district provides us only $15 per student to purchase supplemental materials for the entire program.
We are a public school comprised of three classrooms. Our small school shares a campus with the resident school for this area. Our school is located in a mostly middle to low socioeconomic area. We have a very strong community and parent base who are all vested in providing support for student achievement.
My Project
I plan to use the Samsung Galaxy Tablet to incorporate technology into my classroom. The tablet can connect to my SmartBoard to display lessons that will allow my students to interact with the latest educational apps. Using the tablet, my students will be able to touch the big screen to dissect a virtual frog, tour a virtual 3-D model of a California Mission, and speak to students from all over the world. We will also use the tablet to use technology to create art and music, and to watch dance, theatre, and music performances. Some of the children are even interested in creating apps. A tablet is essential for taking my classroom to the next frontier!
With a tablet, these students have an opportunity to interact with the most cutting-edge and engaging educational technology of our time.
After they oooh and aaah over each lesson, their minds often leap beyond the program to insights I could never have planned. Your support would open the window for their explorations and power their innovations.
