My school is very diverse both culturally and economically. Our staff and families do our best to ensure that all children have the necessary tools to be successful learners. The number of students who qualify for free or reduced-priced lunch is high enough that the school provides free breakfast and lunch to all students and weekend meals to many.
My classroom is filled with students who come from many different backgrounds and speak many different languages.
For many, this is their first experience in a school setting. They need exposure to as many different types of learning experiences as possible, to help them catch up to their peers who had early childhood experiences.
Technology plays a very large part in today's world. Even children as young as 5 & 6 need to be able to use technology on a daily basis. Many reading and math reading programs have apps specifically for tablets that can be used to individualize learning for each student in my classroom. Without access to tablets, they are missing out on these opportunities.
During small group and independent station, my students will use the Kindle Fire tablet to work at his or her own level to practice both reading and math skills needed to be successful in school.
We will be able to store our new tablets and headphones with the different book bins to make them easily accessible to everyone.
