Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
"All of us do not have equal talent, but all of us should have equal opportunity to develop our talents." John F. Kennedy. This quote cannot be more true for my students. Their talents are hidden on the inside struggling to come out.
My students have various disabilities such as Autism, Intellectual Disability, and Learning Disability which means that learning and communicating is a daily struggle for them.
Not only do they struggle to learn but it is difficult for them to function in a normal classroom because of their outbursts due to the inability to communicate their needs. They are in a Title 1 school where it is 95% reduced-price/free lunch. They love to learn new things even though it is a struggle for most of them.
My Project
My students have Autism and with their Autism they have various sensory needs. My students have a sensory room in order to help them calm themselves or work on sensory regulating which is vital to their success in the classroom. In this sensory room they work on things like calming their bodies, messy play, and fine/gross motor activities.
Our sensory room needs a tunnel, 2 trampolines, and light filters so that our students can work on regulating their sensory processing disorders.
We share our sensory room with another class of students with Autism so it isn't just my students you would be helping.
