Help me give my students options for flexible seating such as pillows, stools, balance ball chair, and the saucer chair. Movement in my classroom is extremely important for their academic success.
Currently I am a second grade teacher to 20 wonderful students. Everyday my students are excited to see what the day has before them. Before the day begins, the students prepare each morning by having breakfast and having a morning meeting.
My students are part of a Title I school that provides breakfast and lunch free to every student every day.
My class, consist of students that have various learning disabilities, this is a challenge but we make it through each and every day.
My Project
In my class, the students are able to pick a "learning spot" for the day. This encourages them to do their best work and be comfortable as they learn. I have seen so much improvement in my students stamina, product, and eagerness in their learning, since I have started flexible seating in my classroom. My students are able to move around the room if they need to as the day progresses. However, my students are running out of areas and seats to learn in. My students will benefit from the pillows, stools, balance ball chair, and saucer chairs. The students will be able to grab a pillow and find a spot around the room and not sit on the cold tile floor that is in my classroom. The stools will help my students fidget and swing their feet and help with their movement while they learn. The balance ball chair will encourage my students to stay in place but able to move and bounce as they learn. The saucer chairs will benefit my students who need to sit and touch items as they work, the strings in the chair will help my students will their textile sensory learning.
